Horse riding boots... Why would someone wear tall boots instead of paddock or jodphur boots?

Tall boots just seem like a pain and are expensive. Is there any practical reason for tall boots?

They keep your pants material still so that your legs aren%26#039;t affected by your pants riding up. But it%26#039;s much more comfortable to wear half chaps instead of tall boots.

I wore tall boots with jeans for a while because I hadn%26#039;t bought half chaps yet. I needed tall boots for showing, but I was still pretty new to the riding thing and hadn%26#039;t gotten half chaps and paddock boots. So I wore my tall boots with jeans when I rode. As soon as I got half chaps, I quit wearing my tall boots. Before shows I always try to slip into my boots and breeches just to get comfortable wearing them again before the show.
Reply:tall boots look better, and are super comfortable. if you don%26#039;t like them ride in them more until the break in, cause at first it will feel weird. tall boots have way better leg protection and are helpful with good body position. i used to ride in paddock boots and love my tall boots. its not much of a hassle to clean them, it never takes more than 3mins, especially if you take care of your horse in other boots.
Reply:Tall boots provide leg protection for a wide range of movement. Friction of equipment can injure legs of a rider without tall boots or some other form of leg protection.
Reply:They protect your legs from rubbing against the saddle.

plus, it looks more formal for competitions, ceremonies, etc.
